CHTC provides educational development for youth and adults that address literacy, GED preparation, Adult Basic Education, and remedial education. These programs are designed using a competency-based system that measures educational growth through pre testing, instruction, and post testing. Using the competency-based system, clients’ educational levels are ascertained and the effectiveness of instruction can be evaluated through final testing.
Programs are operated on six (6) month training cycles. Curriculums are developed using GED standards so that clients are prepared to take the test at the end of training. Educational curriculums have additional components that include life skills and job readiness training, thus allowing the clients to enhance their personal and professional qualities.
Programs to prepare participants who are not ready to compete successfully in a full-scale GED preparation program are channeled into Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs designed to raise functional literacy levels. Successful completion of an ABE program is raising reading and math levels to compete in a GED program or transition to a combination plan of educational and unsubsidized employment.
